DIGITISING WASTE COLLECTION IN GHANA; THE HALLMARK OF THE 1MB PROJECT

The 1 Million Waste-bins project is characterised by the Integrated Waste Management Information System (IWMIS), a system developed by a wholly owned Ghanaian company to help waste management service providers improve their service delivery by providing real-time monitoring of their field activities.

The solid waste management outlook of Ghana is alarming; with only 14.4% of the population relying on house-to-house collection and close to 61.8% of households relying on improper waste storage, collection and disposal methods as stated by the Ghana Statistical Services. The situation looks grim and requires urgent interventions.
